Ganjifa Miniature Art

Ganjifa Miniature Art

The name Ganjifa comes from the Persian word Ganjifeh Meaning playing card. The game first became popular at the Mughal courts, 500-600 years ago in the form of lavish sets of precious stone-inlaid ivory or tortoise shell. It later spread to the South of India and found patronage under the Mysore Dynasty. Ganjifa paintings are circular. The precise style and arrangement of the decoration on any set is dependent on its artist. Our Ganjifa product range is the Mysore variant. The most famous design is the Dashavatara Ganjifa which uses motifs from the ten Avatars of Vishnu.
